On Saturday April 26th, Former Team Captain and now President of the Vancouver Canucks Trevor Linden will announce his participation in the 2014 Great Canadian Ride, a cross Canada cycling relay for High School students. Linden will be joined by former NHL player Joé Juneau and Olympic Gold Medalist Jean-Luc Brassard both for the press conference and the cycling journey.
About The Great Canadian Ride
The Great Canadian Ride is an event founded by The Francophone School Authority of British Columbia ( SD#93) that has, since 2013, united youth from all over Canada in a cross-country bike relay. Departing from Victoria on May 12th, the local peloton will kick-start the event, and school boards spanning the country will follow the relay, participating and receiving their peers along the way.
A series of pelotons will carry their flag from province to province in order to promote making a choice towards stronger, healthier living. Through their determination and drive, students not only overcome the physical hurdles of such a ride, but they will live and learn through an experience unmatched in our school system to date.
The Great Canadian Ride works to encourage young people to discover their strengths and realize their potential. The final peloton will arrive in Quebec City, QC, on June 13th.
This year, 200 cyclists from 35 schools will cover the distance in 33 days.
