The Holland Ladies Tour opened Tuesday with a fast, flat 10KM individual time trial on the levees along the River Waal. The technical course featured a number of tight turns, transitions from smooth to cobbled pavement, and a zig-zag sequence just 250 meters from the finish. Overall, the squad put in a strong showing against the top time trialists in the world, with four Team TIBCO riders finishing within two minutes of leader, Ellen van Dijk (Boels Dolmans Cycling Team). This places the team in great position going into the open road stages.
In spite of a hard crash last week at the Pouley World Cup race in France, Lauren Stephens put in a strong effort and finished in 11th place, just 47 seconds behind the day’s leader.
Also today, Jasmin Glaessar just missed taking the lead in the Best Young Rider category by 6 seconds and sits in 2nd place. The Holland Ladies Tour continues Wednesday with 115KM stage on narrow dutch roads.
