In the federal budget introduced on Tuesday, there was an announcement of increased support for the development of of Canada's next generation of Olympic and Paralympic medallists.
Beginning in fiscal 2016-17, the federal government will match up to $20 million of private sector investment that supports athletes who are 5-8 years away from potentially medalling at the Olympics or Paralympics. This support is spread over four years ($5 million/year). The funding will be used for additional coaches, sports science services and improving training environments.
