Prior to the Elite races on Sunday at Round 4 of the XCO World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy, the Under-23 women and men raced. Mackenzie Myatt (Canadian National) was the top Canadian woman, in 29th, with Sean Fincham (Canadian National) the top man in 30th.
The women's race came down to the usual battle between Sina Frei (Ghost Factory) and Evie Richards (Trek Factory), with Frei taking her third consecutive win of the season ahead of her rival. Round 1 winner Malene Degn (Ghost Factort) finished third. In addition to Myatt, Canadian results included Juliette Tetreault (Canadian National) in 46th and Anne Julie Tremblay in 49th. Frei leads the overall standings with 340 points, followed by Degn at 280 and Richards at 200.
Petter Fagerhaug of Norway, winner of Round 1, took his second win of the season in Val di Sole, followed by Round 2 winner Joshua Dubau of France, with Round 3 winner Vlad Dascalu (Brujula Bike). As well as Fincham, other Canadian results include Quinton Disera (Norco Factory) in 38th, Gunnar Holmgren (Canadian National) in 53rd, Raphael Auclair (Pivot Cycles - OTE) 62nd, Marc-Andre Fortier (Pivot Cycles - OTE) 64th, Felix Belhumeur (Pivot Cycles - OTE) 80th and Brody Sanderson (Canadian National) 99th. Fagerhaug remains in the overall lead with 280 points, followed by Dubau at 200 and Filippo Colombo (BMC) at 187. Sean Fincham is 28th, Fortier 49th and Disera 50th.
"Struggled today on a very challenging course," said Fincham. "It wasn't my day, but I'm pleased that I was able to finish the race in 30th. Looking forward to next weekend."
