Reporting to the Coordinator, Track Cycling & Events, this part-time position is responsible for ensuring all cycling participants experience a safe and enjoyable environment when attending a Town of Milton drop-in cycling program or private track cycling experience. This position enforces safe riding practices and anticipates and reacts to customer concerns. This role also ensures cycling program participants experience a safe and enjoyable ride through the care and maintenance of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre's bicycle rental fleet and associated equipment. This position works variable hours including some evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
• Facilitate and monitor group track cycling activities using a comprehensive understanding of the technical and physical requirements of cycle track riding in a group environment
• Assess skill level of participants when required to ensure safety on the track
• Ensure proper use and care of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre rental bicycles and any related equipment
• Ensure participants are following proper track cycling etiquette during sessions; provide guidance or instruction to participants as appropriate
• Politely enforce the established Mattamy National Cycling Centre rules and guidelines governing the safety and conduct of participants
• Maintain effective communication with Customer Service, Facility Maintenance Staff and Supervisor
• Evaluate situations for potential safety risks and proactively take action to address such risks to ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants
• Ensure all rental bikes, helmets and shoes are safe and in excellent condition
• Maintain a detailed inventory of all bikes, helmets and shoes
• Maintain complete and accurate repair documentation for all repairs on each piece of equipment
• Ensure that all equipment, including wheels, tires, handlebar tape, seat, pedals, helmets and shoes are clean
• Troubleshoot any bicycle mechanical issues which require repair or maintenance and safely and effectively execute repairs
• Report bike and rental equipment condition to Supervisor
• Work with coaches regarding the planning and delivery of required bicycle and associated equipment to meet the needs of the participants
• Report all accidents and incidents, using the appropriate form(s) and forward to immediate supervisor for follow up
• Submit all required forms ensuring accuracy and completeness of information
• Establish positive relationships, clear communication channels and work cooperatively with all staff and participants
• Attend and participate in mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and allocated program times
• Performs duties associated with the Track Cycling Coach position as required
• Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives
Education and Experience
• Track cycling experience is required
• NCCP Community Initiation - Trained
• NCCP Introduction to Competition Certified or Trained Coach preferred
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"
• Comprehensive knowledge of bicycle maintenance and mechanics
• Barnett's Bicycle Institute's Bicycle Standard of Excellence Level 1 or 2 preferred
• Park Tool School Certificate an asset
• Comprehensive understanding of cycling specific Long Term Athlete Development pathway
• Previous experience supervising program participants in a recreational environment an asset
• Well organized with the ability to coordinate and communicate with groups of people effectively
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Discretion, tact and mature judgment is required
• Successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
