November 20/19 17:31 pm - National Domestic Racing Calendar Released

Posted by Editoress on 11/20/19

Cycling Canada has released the full Canadian racing calendar across all disciplines for 2020.  Below are the details for each discipline:

Track
The Canadian track season opens with the final round of the 2019-2020 Track World Cup series in Milton, on January 24-26 - this will be one of the final opportunities for riders and nations to gain UCI points in the quest for Olympic spots.  It will be followed a week later by the Para Track World Championships on January 30th to February 2nd, also in Milton.  On April 3-5, the Track Nationals for Under-17, Junior and Para riders will take place in Milton.  On August 22nd, the Day of the Hour event will take place, and the final track event of the year will be the Nationals for Elite and Masters riders, also in Milton.  The dates for this event are not yet finalized, but the plan is to move it to October (instead of late September), so it no longer conflicts with the Road Worlds.

Road
The national road season opens with the women's UCI 1.1 GP Gatineau road race and time trial on June 4-5.  Since the GP Saguenay stage race has been cancelled, the first men's race will be the long running Tour de Beauce on June 17-21.  It will be followed by the National Road Championships for Elite, Under-23, Junior and Para riders in Levis, Quebec, on June 26-29.  The Masters Nationals will take place in Victoriaville, Quebec, on July 2-5, at the same time and place as the Classique des Appalaches Gran Fondo.  Junior men will have the Tour de l'Abitibi on July 13-19, while B.C. Superweek begins in B.C. on July 12th with the UCI 1.2 Delta Road Race.  BC Superweek continues with the Gastown GP on July 15th and finishes on July 19th (other Superweek events are not nationally or UCI sanctioned).

Quebec will host two events for younger riders in August - the GPC de la Matapedia will take place on August 12-16 for Junior men (and some Elite men events) and, for Junior women and Under-17 men, the Tour de l'avenir MaKadence will take place August 13-16.  The national road season will conclude in September with the Gran Fondo Worlds in Whistler/Vancouver on the 9th to 13th, while the two World Tour races will take place in Quebec City (11th) and Montreal (13th).

Mountain Bike
The domestic mountain bike season opens with the now traditional Bear Mountain cross-country Canada Cup in Victoria, BC, on March 28-29.  The XCO series has a total of seven events, resuming in late May with events in Mont Tremblant and Baie St Paul, followed by Canmore, Alberta, and Whistler, BC, in June, and then to Sherbrooke, Quebec in early July for the penultimate event, before finally finishing in Nova Scotia at Kentville, at the end of August.  Other cross-country events on the national calendar include the XCO Nationals back at Hardwood Ski and Bike on July 11-12, the Mont-Ste-Anne World Cup on August 22-23, and Marathon Nationals on September 5th.

On the Downhill side, there are five Canada Cup events for 2020, beginning at Mont Tremblant (in conjunction with the XCO), followed by Panorama, BC, on June 13-14, back-to-back B.C. events in Silverstar (July 11-12) and Fernie (July 18-19), and finally the Canadian Open at Crankworx on August 16th, in Whistler, BC.  The DH Nationals will take place in Golden, BC, on July 25-26, and an Enduro World Series event in Whistler on August 9th.  The Mont-Ste-Anne Downhill World Cup is the final event on the Canadian calendar, taking place with the XCO/XCC World Cup on August 22-23.

Para
The Canadian para-cycling season begins with the Track World Championships in Milton on January 30 to February 2; the first time Canada has hosted these world championships.  The Track Nationals will take place in Milton on April 3-5 to end the track season.  There are three road para events in Canada for 2020, the Defi sportif Altergo in Montreal on May 2-3, the Road Nationals on June 26-27 in Levis, Quebec, and the return of the Road World Cup to Baie Comeau, Quebec, on August 6-8.

BMX
Canada will have three events on the national BMX racing calendar for 2020 - Canada Cups 1/2 in Drummondville, Quebec, on June 27-28; Canada Cups 3/4 in Okotoks, Alberta, on August 15-16; and the national championships in Calgary on August 22-23, together with the final round of the Canada Cup.

Cyclo-cross
There are two events on the national cyclo-cross calendar for 2020 - the national championships moves to Langford, BC, for November 14th, followed the next day by a UCI C2 event at the same venue.
