Organizers announced today that theTraversée du Lac Saint-Jean event, scheduled for March 6th, has been cancelled due to the pandemic. A small and select group will continue the tradition of the event on March 6th, but the mass participation version has been cancelled. The organizers plan on returning with the full event in 2022.
The unique event was to take place for the eighth time this year. It consists of crossing the frozen Lac-Saint-Jean in the Saguenay region north of Quebec City, between the town of Saint-Gédéon and the city of Roberval. This year, 150 participants had signed for the event, won by mountain bike pro Leandre Bouchard last year.
"We understand the disappointment of the participants, all of whom were eager to live the winter experience of the Crossing, but the current situation demanded such a decision for the collective well-being of the region. Even if the physical event will not take place on March 6, we invite all participants to take part in the virtual initiative launched by the organizing committee," said Fabien Blot, Deputy Director General of the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes [FQSC].
