March 7/22 12:10 pm - Become a Commissaire - Intro to Road & Track Race Officiating (B.C.)

Posted by Editor on 03/7/22

Becoming a cycling commissaire is an excellent way for racers and enthusiasts to gain a deeper understanding of cycling and broaden their involvement in the sport they love. As a commissaire, you are able to represent Cycling BC as a trained professional to ensure fair and safe competition. There are opportunities for paid travel and advancement from provincial to national and international certification.

This course will be conducted over two evenings and is designed to be accompanied by an experiential learning component at local races following the training. The course will cover the rules, teach you how to read a license, handle registration, provide information about start/finish procedures, manual timing and much more.

The course will be conducted with the following format:

• Evening 1 - General regulations, equipment, values and traits of a cycling official
• Evening 2 - breakout rooms for discipline specific rules for road and track

At the conclusion of the course, you will have a greater understanding of the role of a commissaire, increased knowledge of the road and track rules as well as understand how to progress through the ranks from a level C trainee to an international commissaire. The course is also suitable for event organizers, team managers and coaches who wish to learn the principle rules of the sport in order to be more effective in their roles.

Newly trained officials will be able to participate in CBC's mentorship program, putting into practice the theory and skills learned at the course, under the supervision of experienced commissaires over the course of the 2022 season to complete their level C certification.
