Canada's women sprinters had a very strong start on the first two days of the opening round of the Nations Cup in Glasgow, Scotland. On Thursday - Day 1 - the squad of Kelsey Mitchell, Lauriane Genest and Sarah Orban won silver in the Team Sprint. The next day, Mitchell, the Olympic champion in the Sprint, won that event, and donned the leader's jersey for the Series. Mitchell was untouchable - qualifying first and not losing a heat on her way to victory. Genest also rode in the Sprint, qualifying third and finishing sixth overall.
"So happy to be back racing again this season," says Mitchell. "Starting off with a silver medal in the Team Sprint and following it with a gold medal in the match Sprint felt great! It has been a long time since I had to do that many rounds in one day, but I am glad the body was able to pull it together and that I had the Cycling Canada team with me. Keirin on Sunday, and after that, the world will be coming to Canada, and I can not wait to race in front of that home crowd!"
