After a horrific crash ended his international cycling career, former Junior world champion (and current world record holder) Stefan Ritter began to explore the world of photography. He attended the Track Nations Cup in Milton last month, and we are pleased to present a gallery of his images that he has titled: A Sprinter's Intensity. Stefan shows a strong eye, and we hope to see more of his talent in the future!

A Sprinter's Intensity

Track sprinting on the velodrome is comprised of moments - moments of intensity that demand the utmost of an athlete's focus and commitment. This is a story told by an athlete's expression both on and off the bike. The culmination of experience gained and focus refined, and the resulting momentary expression of those emotions; all being displayed and captured in a fraction of a second - a moment. These images portray the essence of the track sprinter: the passion, the drive, and the composure that is needed to be successful. I hope that these photographs can serve as a window into the mindset of an athlete on race day.
