Canada won three medals on the opening day of the Para-cycling Road world championships in Baie-Comeau, Quebec, on Thursday. Charles Moreau won a silver medal in the men's H3 time trial, as did Nathan Clement in men's T1, while Shelley Gauthier won bronze in the women's t1 time trial.

For Moreau, it was a strong comeback from a disappointing 13th in the road race at the World Cup a week earlier in Quebec City.

"I'm super happy, because it allows me to put the experience of Tokyo behind me," said Moreau, referring to his results below his expectations at the last Paralympic Games. "I had the knife between my teeth to recover myself here, this week." Moreau was 13.8 seconds behind Paolo Cecchetto (Italy) over the 18.9 kilometre circuit. Italians also finished third and fourth - Mirko Testa (+31.80s) finished third ahead of his compatriot Federico Mestroni (+37.66s).

"It's been since 2019 that I haven't been on the podium. I had a fourth place at the Worlds, last year, before the Tokyo Games. [...] It allows me to turn the page and above all to reiterate my commitment to cycling and show that I am still in the game. At the World Championships, it's the best result of my career!," continued Moreau in an interview with Sportcom. "It's been three seasons that there were great efforts that were made and the results were never very representative with the glitches that stuck to me. There, it motivates me again, it gives me pep and it shows that I can realistically aim for the Paris Games and have great expectations."
