With the bad news about Lyne Bessette's withdrawal from the Commonwealth Games, comes the good news: Audrey Lemieux, of Alma, QC, will replace Bessette in the road competition this Sunday March, 26th.

Audrey Lemieux, 20, from Alma, QC, has been invited to Melbourne to take the vacant place left by Lyne Bessette, who suffered from a shoulder dislocation following a training session last week. Lemieux, a member of the Colavita/Cooking Light Cycling Team, was selected as the first alternate by the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) High Performance Committee. Lemieux is the current U23 Canadian champion and winner of the road and individual time trial competition at the 2005 Canada Games.

Kris Westwood, CCA's Director of High Performance Programs, reported, "We are thrilled that Audrey has been given permission by her Colavita/Cooking Light Cycling Team to join the Canadian National Team for the road race at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She represents the next generation of young cyclists in Canada and this will be a tremendous opportunity for her to take part in her first major games."

Lemieux will race on Sunday March, 26. She is very pleased with her selection and will arrive in Australia on Thursday March 23.

La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries has signed on as co-sponsor of Team Giga-Bike. The team will be known as Team Giga-Bike/La-Z-Boy for the 2006 season, with a future four year sponsorship program in development. La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries assists in helping Junior/Espoir cyclists achieve their goals through the Junior/Espoir Development team competing in B.C. Cup events in 2006.

"La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries is a great co-sponsor of the team and gives the riders and management more confidence and excitement for the season. Having their major international brand name on the jerseys really elevates the profile of the team at every race they attend and speaks of the determination and seriousness of the team and riders ambitions. We have high hopes for our first season out and envision a mutually beneficial experience with La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries while keeping an eye to the future growth of the team", says Giga-Bike President Calvin Straathof.

La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries has 6 locations in British Columbia, 33 across Canada and 328 in the North America. With locations across the province and country, the teams visibility and results in races across the province and country will benefit every licensee. Giga-Bike/La-Z-Boy has a strong team of Junior/Espoir members including former National Junior Champion Ryan McNamara and four Cat 1/2 members forming the elite team. With a strong Cat 3 team of 6 members, Giga-Bike/La-Z-Boy has a good base of racers to pull from throughout the season and also represent in B.C. Cup events with a 10-person trade team.

"Many business people helped my brother Martin (Former Canadian Olympian) and I when we were racing at the elite level. Without the support of the business community amateur athletes have very limited resources to reach their goals. It is a great joy to be able to participate in the development of promising athletes and give back to a sport that has given so much to me and my extended family". Says La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries Owner Bernie Willock (Former National Road Champion).
