The 2nd Annual Peru Megavanche Downhill race took place on Sunday March 26th. The event was a two run format, mass start event with over 200 racers on the startline. After a week of rain the Inca gods finally delivered some sun and warmth that helped the steep, technical course to dry out a little bit. The event was part of the international Avalanche Cup series that features endurance downhill races.

Starting at over 4600m and finished at 3400m the riders all had to deal with the challenges of riding full out at high altitude. Many riders said that it was like trying to ride after drinking a couple of beers. In total the winning racers spent nearly 50 minuites pinned at race pace on the difficult track that consisted of super muddy high alpine, fast double track, wet and slick rock gardens, technical single track and a bottom high speed section with long jumps.

The victory went to past World Cup Champion Steve Peat after he made an exciting late race pass on Remy Absalon. Remy said after the race that Steve passed by airing over him as he made one of the last turns before the finish.

1. Steve Peat (GBr) Santa Cruz
2. Remy Absalon (Fra) Commencal
3. Alan Beggin (Ita) Red Bull
4. Mike Jones (Can) Marin Bicycles
5. Tommy Misser (Esp) Guark/Commencal
