Grand Tour of the Bruce

The Grand Tour of the Bruce will run from July 23rd to July 27th, 2007. It is a four day bicycle and camping tour. The tour starts in the scenic city of Owen Sound, Ontario then cyclists ride along backroads and railtrails throughout the beautiful Bruce Peninsula. The Bruce Peninsula is in Bruce County, Ontario and is situated between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay (250 kilometres northwest of Toronto). Spaces are limited to 250 cyclists.

The tour is the brainchild of local cycling enthusiast, Bill Haley. Bill is a retired teacher who ran a bicycle touring business on the Bruce Peninsula for 11 seasons. Assisting Bill is Tom Hakala. Tom has written two books on cycling in the region and is an executive in the Owen Sound
Cycling Club.

The Grand Tour of the Bruce is a project developed and managed by the Tom Thomson Trail Group as a fund-raiser to assist in finishing the Tom Thomson Trail. The Tom Thomson Trail is a non-motorized multi-use trail that will eventually link the trail systems west of Owen Sound and the Georgian Trail east of Meaford, Ontario. The Grand Tour of the Bruce is part of the Owen Sound Homecoming in 2007, which celebrates the city's 150 anniversary.
