Giro Announces Team Selections

The organizers of the Giro d'Italia (RCS) have announced the names of the 22 teams which are invited to the first of the Grand Tours this year, and already there is controversy. RCS has sided with ASO - organizers of the Tour de France and other major races - in leaving out the ProTour squad Unibet.com, contrary to UCI demands. The Giro has also invited Tyler Hamilton's Tinkoff squad, despite the American coming off a suspension and being implicated in the Puerto scandal.

The 22 teams are:
