Bob Andrews won another tough, cold Roubaix race on Sunday, catching Pat Ferris after a long chase, right at the finish line. He edged him out by a few bike lengths to win with a time of 1:14:01 hours for the 26 km distance. Gary Hilderman was third, twelve seconds later.

Pat Ferris wins the Roubaix Cup three-race series with 13 points. Double stage winner Bob Andrews was second with 10, Gord Harris and Barb Polehoykie third at 5, Dean Lowry and Gary Hilderman 3 and Irvin Tang 2.

The final Roubaix Race took place under cold, minus 14 degree conditions and some fresh snow, with six riders starting at the Baldonnel School. The group stayed together until the 9 km mark when they encountered the first deep snow on the road.

Pat Ferris pulled away slippery conditions to get a lead of about a minute on his rivals Gary Hilderman and Bob Andrews. He held his lead up to the sixteen kilometer mark when Bob Andrews started to catch up to him.

Bob Andrews caught and passed Ferris with about a 100 metres to go to win a hard fought race, with Gary Hilderman close behind. Irvin Tang won the sprint for 4th from Gord Harris and Barb Polehoykie at 1:17:02.

This year's edition of the Roubaix Cup will go down as one of the coldest. Maybe they can call it the 'Arctic Cup', next time.

Coming up: Next Sunday the Cecil Lake road race at 2 pm.

Pray For Spring
