OCA Hires New Executive Director

We reported on this at the beginning of the month (see Daily News March 4/07 9:15 am EST), but here is the official announcement:

After an exhaustive recruitment process the hiring committee is pleased to announce that Jim Crosscombe is the successful candidate for the position of Executive Director of the Ontario Cycling Association.

Jim comes to us as the former president of the Association, a position he held for 8 years. As president Jim was a cornerstone of the organization and through his leadership brought the Association from the brink of bankruptcy to the vibrant healthy position that it is in today. Jim was instrumental in the OCA welcoming back BMX racing, helping form major sponsorship deals for the Ontario Cup Series, the development of a formalized Cyclo-cross Series, increasing participation in Road Racing and assisting Ontario in hosting UCI National and International level events.

Jim is committed to ensuring that the Association remains financially healthy, continues to build its core business and is committed to bringing youth into the sport.

Jim has been involved in outdoor recreation and education since graduating from Outdoor Recreation at Seneca College. As a recreational cyclist he helped found the Beaver Valley mountain bike club. As the club's president he oversaw the organization of numerous mountain bike races and local tours. His involvement in the OCA began with a committee working on trail advocacy issues and helped develop the Ontario Mountain Bike Instructors (OMBI) program, eventually becoming a Level II Instructor. He has been responsible for the trail ranger program in Algonquin Park for many years now.

Jim lives in Toronto with his wife Carolyn and his two children, Nigel and Rachel. When not at work Jim can be found with his family enjoying the outdoors camping, canoeing and hiking. As a serious photographer you may have seen Jim at races with his trademark Tilley hat and his favourite Nikon camera.

Jim's first official day on the job will be Monday March 19, 2007. He can be reached at 416-426-7243 or execdir@ontariocyling.org
