Trek/Red Truck Beer Racing Team Race Report

Trek/Red Truck Racing's Ryan Anderson beats out Tyler Farrar of Cofidis for the Road Stage win at the Wenatchee Omnium Stage Race.

The Wenatchee Omnium Stage race (May 12-13, 2007) started out with a 9 mile time trial, followed by a very technical and rough twilight crit, and finally an epic climbing stage on Sunday.

The "out" portion of the 9 mile TT Saturday morning was a bit of a cruise thanks to the tailwind - most were spinning out in their hardest gears...unfortunately, though enjoyable in the moment, all were all painfully aware of the certain fate which awaited at the turnaround. On the men's side Ryan Anderson placed 5th, with teammate Dave Vuckets following behind by 1 minute. The TRT women's team dug deep and finished with 2 riders in the top 15.

The Saturday night twilight crit was a 4 corner downtown course with a downhill onto a rough lower road, and a short power climb back up to the top start/finish stretch. The strategically positioned set of railroad tracks on the climb helped the riders catch a bit of air. The TRT team's presence was definitely felt as both the men's and women's teams were a constant feature on the front end of the field. In the women's field Trek's Lisa Tasa and Fiona Macleod each won a prime sprint, and finished strongly taking 4th, 5th and 9th places.

In the men's field Trek's Dave Vuckets placed a respectable 6th followed by Ryan Anderson in 7th. Sunday's road race started with 10 miles of rolling terrain which led riders into the 1st of two trips up a killer 9 mile climb with 2000 feet of vertical gain per lap. The gradient undulated between 4% and 12%, with the occasional 20% pitch thrown in to make things interesting. Spectators were camped out on the steep switchbacks of the 27 mile loop to get a slow motion view of the twisted, drooling faces of the peloton. In the Men's field Ryan Anderson of Trek/ Red Truck out sprinted Dave Richter of Ital Pasta and US Pro Champ Tyler Farrar (Cofidis), who has been nursing a previous leg injury.

During the women's race the pack splintered on the 4.2 mile QoM climb, about 12-13 miles into the course. TRT Courtney Alberts not only stayed with the head of the pack, but went on to win the prestigious QOM jersey. The sprint finish in the pack saw Lisa finish 4th, Courtney 5th, with Fiona taking 9th.

Overall in general classification Ryan Anderson took 2nd behind Tyler Farrar. Dave Vuckets takes 9th overall to keep himself in the top 10. In the men's Team GC, the Trek/Red Truck team came in 1st overall ahead of First Rate Mortage. On the women's side the Trek gals took 3rd in the overall Team GC, after Team Group Health and Avanti/Ti Cycles.
