2007 Alberta Youth Championships

Track Championship

The Olympic Oval National Cycling Center Calgary is hosting the 2007 Alberta Youth Track Championships on August 30th in Calgary and the Provincial Youth Road Championships on September 1st, 2nd and 3rd in and around North Calgary. The track event will also include a 2 day “Learn to Race” camp on August 28th and 29th at the Glenmore Velodrome (mornings). The track will be open on these days also in the afternoon for team training. The track championships format will include the usual Sprint, Points and Scratch Races as well as Kilo/500m ITT and Pursuits if time permits (numbers will affect the final format). If weather delays affect the track championships we can complete the Championships on Friday August 31st.

Road Championship

The ITT and Road Race are going to take place in a small town north of Calgary. The ITT will start near the local community center and head south for 8 K returning to the town for the finish. The RR route was used for the 2005 Championships; there is an undulating 10 K loop around open prairie that will challenge each racing division. The Criterium will take place in Calgary at either the University Research Park or another site that is being investigated at this time.

Accommodation

The Olympic Oval National Cycling Center Calgary has a preferred rate with two local hotels; the Quality Inn - University and the Four Points Sheraton across from Canada Olympic Park. The guaranteed rate is $89/night when you quote the code “L-Oval”. For those of you who may be interested we are also looking into Billeting athletes with local families who will also be attending so transportation and other support may be available.
