Bicycles For Humanity Partners with School District 45 to Collect Bicycles for the Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre in Namibia

Bicycles for Humanity, a grassroots charitable organization, has partnered with West Vancouver schools to collect bikes for the Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre in Namibia.

The Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre will be the recipient of over 300 used bicycles donated by the public as well as brand new bicycles and parts from Vancouver-based bicycle companies Norco Performance Bikes and Rocky Mountain Bikes. The Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre is run by women who are HIV positive. Volunteers of this organization use the bikes for transportation while caring for orphans, HIV/AIDS patients and people with disabilities.

In addition to giving to the global community, this collection provides a service learning opportunity for students of the West Vancouver School District. Students learn about HIV/AIDS, global inequality, and global citizenship through assisting with the collection of the bikes while taking their first step to becoming a global citizen.
The collection takes place at Ridgeview Elementary School at 1250 Mathers Avenue in West Vancouver on Friday May 2nd from 4-7PM; and Saturday May 3rd from 9-4PM. Bikes can also be dropped off in North Vancouver at Steed Cycles located at 969 Marine Drive from April 22nd to May 1st during the hours of 11-5PM. Donations of used bicycles of all sizes are welcomed.
