New report calls for greater investment in Toronto bicycling infrastructure

Toronto's bicycling infrastructure scores low compared with other world cities, according to a new report card released at Bike Summit 2008 in Toronto. The Toronto Coalition for Active Transportation (TCAT) and the Clean Air Partnership (CAP) partnered to host this unique one-day summit at the St. Lawrence Hall, where leading international transportation experts and decision-makers discussed ways to improve urban cycling environments.

Cyclist Basso confident of returning to top

Italian cyclist Ivan Basso, who was suspended for two years for his implication in the Operation Puerto scandal, said Friday he hopes to return to the top with new team Liquigas.

The 30-year-old Basso, who is allowed to ride competitively again from October 24 2008, has agreed a two-year deal with Liquingas.

Nearly every day, an out-of-stater looking to visit Burlington calls one of the local bike shops and ask what trails to ride. The employees are accommodating and send the tourists in the direction of the Waterfront bike path or one of the many mountain bike trials in the county.

But in our digital world, where seemingly everything we need to know is a mouse-click away, directions over the phone just don't seem to cut it. Those looking for information want the one-stop shopping convenience of the Internet.

Local Motion, an area bicycling advocacy group, understood that people needed an up-to-date trail resource. After three years in development, the organization recently launched Trail Finder, a comprehensive Web-based mapping system of all the public recreation trails in Chittenden County. A trip ends where you expect.

A journey begins when you lose track of where you're going. Plans founder, but life lessons result. Take the prelude to my family's 2007 foray to Europe for instance.

I remember it now, the summer of '84, my bike skimming over the Belgian cobbles, one Canadian amidst a foreign legion of 100 riders. For me, a 24-year-old Albertan with a law degree, international competitive cycling was a continuing education in pain tolerance.

Cycling added to Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and P

Hamburg-based dtp entertainment has announced that Summer Athletics will be released in summer 2008 for Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PC.

Players can expect a number of disciplines from a variety of summer sports, 25 in total, including sprinting, hurdles, cycling, archery, javelin, hammer throw, and swimming.
