Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer - Ontario

We are getting a lot of positive feedback about our new starting sequence at this year's Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer. Featured this year is an afternoon start specifically for Elite-level riders. It will be a relatively small field among the 1000 (or so) participants at the event. The Elite start will offer $5000 in cash prizes for the Top-15 Men and Top-15 Women. First place is $1000 per gender. Last year the event was won by Mike Garrigan and Amanda Sin.

We expect phenomenal spectator support at the race which starts and finishes in Downtown St.Catharines, but it is predominantly an off-road event. Race date is Sunday, September 28th. Details and registration at www.libertybicycles.com/squeezer or call 1-877-99-PEDAL.

SIRC (Sport Information Resource Centre) is proud to announce the official launch of the 2008 SIRC Research Award and the introduction of the SIRC Research Development Award.

We are very proud to acknowledge sport research and to ultimately showcase the award recipients work to a worldwide audience. The continuation of support from CIHR ˆ Institute of Musculoskeletal Health, EBSCO Host, Coaches of Canada and Wellness Options is greatly appreciated.

Sport Research plays such a vital role in helping our athletes and the sport system to excel and achieve results of excellence. It is equally powerful to use the passion associated with the involvement in sport to inspire academic excellence and encourage students to push their knowledge base and produce quality research, says Debra Gassewitz, CEO and President of SIRC. We are very proud to recognize through the SIRC Research Awards the significant advancements made by Canadian researchers and to encourage the development of new researchers in the fields of sport and fitness.

"It was an honor to receive the 2007 SIRC award in the category ‘social impact of sport in the community’." Ms. Melanie Elliott, lecturer University of Regina. “I believe it is very important to build awareness and share the results of our study nation wide. By winning this award, I have been provided with the opportunity to speak at many differ ent conferences and functions, all in hopes of building awareness of sport and physical activity for Aboriginal people with disabilities. Thank you SIRC for recognizing the importance of this work - your passion towards sport in the community is greatly appreciated."

The SIRC Research Award recognizes outstanding sport research that benefits the Canadian sporting community. SIRC invites Canadian researchers to submit sport related original research papers in consideration for the 2008 SIRC Research Award. Winners receive $2,000, media coverage in Wellness Options and Coaches Plan, inclusion in the SportDiscus Database and international exposure to the sport and academic community through SIRC’s publishing channels.

The 2008 SIRC Research Award has two categories;

• The impact of applied research on athletic excellence / high performance

The 2008 SIRC Research Development Award is designed to encourage development of research writing skills, with an emphasis on preparing research reports that are comprehensive and yet can be disseminated and understood throughout the sporting community.
