Mavic Announces Canadian Recall Process for R-SYS Wheels

As part of its ongoing commitment to customer safety and satisfaction, Mavic today announced a voluntary recall of its R-SYS front wheels as a precautionary safety measure.

Mavic has determined that the carbon tubular spokes of the R-SYS front wheel may break during use in certain circumstances causing the rider to lose control and possibly fall, potentially sustaining injury.

All models of Mavic R-SYS front wheels are affected (R-SYS, R-SYS test, R-SYS Premium), whether purchased separately or as part of a bicycle. The wheels must no longer be used.

Consumers should immediately return their front wheels to a Mavic dealer; each consumer will receive a new, upgraded R-SYS front wheel free of charge.

This exchange will begin on March 31st, 2009. Prior to this date, so that customers may continue to use their bicycles, Mavic will offer them a free set of Aksium wheels that they may keep after they have received the replacement R-SYS front wheel.

Canadian customers should contact their local Mavic dealer or visit www.ogc.ca for more information on the recall. There is a dealer locator tool at www.ogc.ca

Mavic has a history of introducing many innovations to the cycling market. This constant search for improved performance will continue to lead Mavic towards design and technological advances. However, quality and reliability are major values that have made Mavic the leader in bicycle wheels, and Mavic desires to make a quality and reliability upgrade to the R-SYS wheel through this voluntary recall.

Bernard Millaud, Mavic Managing Director, said: "Mavic is undertaking this voluntary, precautionary recall program because of our uncompromising commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. Our customers rightly expect our products to be of the very highest quality, and Mavic will continue to meet that expectation."
