CrowdRiders Launches Community-owned Pro Team Initiative

Dutch engineer Marc Frencken sent the following e-mail on his plan to start a professional road cycling team that will be owned by cycling enthusiasts:

You might be interested in a new initiative to start a brand new pro-cycling team owned and managed by an international community of cycling fans named CrowdRiders (www.crowdriders.com)

CrowdRiders' goal is to find 40,000 cycling fans from all over the world that jointly want to run this team. Every member, by paying an annual membership fee of 55 Euros [approx. $100 Can], gets direct decision power regarding all the major decision concerning the team: from team name, shirt design and rider selection to race calendar composition and sports director choice.

The team will ride around in the peloton wearing a unique jersey visually displaying the member-ownership structure by displaying every member's name on the official CrowdRiders team jersey and team bus!

For more on this and CrowdRiders in general check www.crowdriders.com

Too ambitious you say? I don't think so, given the fact that myfootballclub.co.uk proved the viability of this model by buying and managing an English pro football team with more than 30,000 members.

Best regards,
Marc Frencken (CrowdRider no.1)
