The organizers of the perennial favourite International Tour de 'Toona, scheduled for Thursday July 16th - thru Sunday July 19th have posted the following message on the event website.

" It is my sad duty to inform the public, as well as the cycling community that the 2009 International Tour de 'Toona has been postponed until 2010.

In addition to the many volunteers who made the Tour de 'Toona a high point in the North American cycling calendar, the race's Steering Committee is justifiably disappointed in this decision.  "It was a tough decision to make" said media director Bob Leverknight.  We weighed a lot of factors, the lack of sponsors, sponsors that cut their commitments, and the general economic climate caused the race to be put off for a year."  The dropping of one of the only remaining stage races left in the United States leaves a gap in the development of young riders, as well as a true test of the professional racers that will be hard to fill.  In addition to the loss of incidental revenue to the local economy, the public will be denied one of the few free-to-the fan-events for the year."
