November 9/09 9:39 am - Forest City Velodrome's Madison Weekend a Success

The 2 day Madison weekend at the Forest City Velodrome this past weekend had a competitive field of Madison teams.  Noisy spectators made the riders go for broke during the 10 events that made up the Madison Omnium.

The FCV hosted riders from across Ontario, New Jersey and Trexlertown Pennsylvania.

The Madison pairing from Glen Spey New York of Barry Miller (Mike Fraysse Sports) and Dave Gulick (T-Town) came away with a very hard fought Victory.  In Friday night action, Miller’s team dominated the racing taking a commanding lead on points. They won 4 of 5 events and were 9 points clear of all the other teams.

The Saturday program turned the table on the Miller Team, as the young guns (Alex Cataford and Ryan Aitcheson) from the FCV amped up their effort and put a real challenge that came up just 3 points short of the overall win.  The young guns won 4 of 5 events.

The young and old FCV team of Junior John Carden & master Mike Renneboog. As the final Madison began Carden & Renneboog were right on the heals of the Miller team, however they cracked in the last 5 minutes of racing to finish in a solid 3rd position.

World Champion Gord Singleton, was partnered with his son Chris for the Saturday night show in Chris’s first Madison event.  The father and son team had a solid ride to finish in the 4th position.  Team USA, Joe Brennan (T-Town) and Lorne Falkenstein crossed the finish line in 5th.

In Sprint competition Mike Nuttall pipped Kristofer Ovsenek at the line to capture the Victory. Krista Ruby finished a solid 3rd.

Miller indicated that he is trying to adjust his schedule to return to the FCV in 3 weeks for the CanAmQue Challenge.  CanAmQue is in the 4th year for this annual event.  The 138 lap Feature race was won in 2008 by Team Quebec with David Boily coming home in victory circle.  The CanAmQue Challenge starts on Saturday November 28th at 7pm.

You will not want to miss the endurance events in November, Racing continues at the Forest City Velodrome Saturday November 14th and November 28th at 7pm.  Adult admission for all race events at FCV is $10.00, Seniors $5.00.  Kids are always FREE.
