March 15/10 16:49 pm - Alcoa Foundation Partners with FQSC to Host 2010 UCI World Championships of Para-cycling

The Federation of Quebec Cycling (FQSC) is pleased to have the support of Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Baie-Comeau as a partner for the 2010 UCI World Championships of Para-cycling.

Organizing such an event requires many resources, particularly financially. Thanks to the involvement of Alcoa as a major partner, the UCI World Championships of Para-cycling will, for the first time, take place on Quebec soil.

The FQSC, who has worked for nearly 20 years developing para-cycling across the province and country, welcomes the partnership which will allow Canadian athletes to compete against the best in the world in front of relatives and supporters. That it is priceless.

This major international competition will show case the sport of paracycling, still unknown to many. It will be a great opportunity for locals to discover Paralympic cycling, and will also enable many people with disabilities to become familiar with this discipline.  Some who may, in the future, be motivated to participate, considering the fact that the final of the World Cup will be held in Baie-Comeau from 2011 to 2013.

Finally, this association is a natural, because with its environmentally responsible policy, the World Championships bring forward the values that are consistent with those advocated by Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation. In short, a winning combination.

The FQSC wishes to thank the Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Baie-Comeau, on its behalf and that of hundreds of athletes who will take part in the World Championships. Thank you!


La Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC) se réjouit de pouvoir compter sur l’appui d’un partenaire tel que la Fondation Alcoa et l’Aluminerie Alcoa de Baie-Comeau afin de permettre la tenue les Championnats du Monde Paracyclisme UCI 2010.

En effet, l’organisation d’un tel événement nécessite, il va sans dire, beaucoup de ressources, particulièrement sur le plan financier. Or, grâce à l’implication d’Alcoa à titre de partenaire majeur, les Championnats du Monde Paracyclisme UCI seront, pour la première fois, disputés en sol québécois.
La FQSC, qui travaille depuis près de 20 ans au développement du paracyclisme à l’échelle de la province, voire du pays, ne peut que se réjouir d’un tel partenariat. Cela permettra, entre autres, aux athlètes d’ici d’affronter les meilleurs au monde, et ce, devant leurs proches et partisans. Ça, ça n’a pas de prix.

De plus, cette compétition d’envergure internationale servira incontestablement de vitrine au paracyclisme, sport encore méconnu de plusieurs. Il s’agira donc d’une belle opportunité pour les gens de la région de découvrir l’adaptation paralympique du cyclisme. Cela permettra également à certaines personnes vivant avec un handicap de se familiariser avec cette discipline, et qui sait, éventuellement prendre part à une épreuve, considérant le fait que la Finale de la Coupe du Monde se tiendra à Baie-Comeau de 2011 à 2013.

Finalement, cette association semblait tout à fait naturelle, car avec sa politique écoresponsable, les Championnats du Monde mettent de l’avant des valeurs qui vont de pair avec celles prônées par Alcoa et la Fondation Alcoa. Bref, il s’agit là d’une association gagnante.

La FQSC tient donc à remercier la Fondation Alcoa et l’Aluminerie Alcoa de Baie-Comeau, en son nom, et celui des quelques centaines d’athlètes qui prendront part à ces Championnats du Monde. Merci!
