It was once again a great weekend at the National Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada with the Halloween Cross. It started on Saturday evening with the first ever 'cross sprint. The format was simple and should become something very popular. You send four riders at a time onto a 45 seconds course, the top two riders advance.

"It was a lot of fun and I also think the spectators really enjoyed it. They could see the complete course from one spot and we could hear them cheer us on more and more as we were progressing through the rounds," mentioned the eventual winner, Jean-Richard Cormier.

In the A final, Cormier finished first, while Mike Leblanc used his BMX experience to pass Neil Symington in the last metres to take second. Justin Mallet finished fourth. On the B side, Julien Roussel beat Markus Schroeter, Cole Donavan and Andrew Buzzell in the final round. See below for complete results.

On Sunday, it was time to test the challenging course of the Dieppe's St-Anselme Park. The main battle was among four guys: Brian McKeown, Mike LeBlanc, Jean-Richard Cormier and Rhéal Jaillet. The four pulled away from the rest of the field on lap two. About halfway through the event, they managed to drop Jaillet after some repeated attacks from Cormier. With two laps to go, Cormier did not want to bring his rival for a final sprint on the velodrome. His accelerations finally had the best of LeBlanc and McKeown, and he was the first to reach the finish line. McKeown and LeBlanc took second and third respectively. See below for complete results.

"Dieppe always has some of the best courses. This park, since it hosted the 2004 national championships, keeps on surprising us with some very technical aspects of cross racing. It was a blast and the finish on the Caisse populaire Dieppe Vélodrome to commemorate the start of its tenth anniversary was just the icing on the cake," added Mike LeBlanc after concluding his event.

This event officially concludes the season at the National Cycling Centre. It was indeed a very successful one with many great results, from the young BMX smiles to the highest international results. The finish line of this Halloween cross on the Caisse populaire Dieppe Vélodrome marked the start of the tenth anniversary celebrations of the facility and the Centre. Stick with us over the next few months for many special celebrations!

Thanks to all our sponsors, partners and many volunteers who greatly helped us out during these first 10 seasons and especially during 2010. It certainly was one of the most successful one!
