November 30/10 12:17 pm - UCI Adds U23 Race to MTB World Cup

Canadian Cyclist has learned that the UCI intends to split the Elite men's field at World Cup cross-country races in 2011.  The Under-23 and elite men will now race at separate times.  Until now, the two categories have raced together, with the top U23 riders identified in a separate podium presentation.  Some of the top U23 riders, such as Matthias Flückiger (Trek World Racing), are already finishing on the Elite podium, but in general U23 men have had difficulty cracking to top-10 in the World Cup.  At this time, it appears that the U23 women will still race with the Elite women, although the possibly of a staggered start has been broached.
