Young competitive male cyclists between 19-40 years of age, who have been previously diagnosed or are currently suspected to have exercise-induced asthma are being invited to take part in a research study.

 

Principal Investigator: Dr. Don McKenzie, MD, PhD
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the presence of intrapulmonary shunting during exercise in elite asthmatic athletes and the effects of airway obstruction on shunting and other physiological parameters.

Time commitment: 3 visits to the lab on 3 different days separated by at least 72 hours
• Day 1 (~2-3h): Familiarization and screening
• Day 2 and 3 (~1-2h each): Experimental exercise testing Lab

Location: All testing will take place at the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre at UBC.
Benefits: You will receive an objective evaluation of your aerobic fitness (i.e., maximal oxygen consumption – VO2max) as well as $100 upon completion of the study.
