April 4/11 16:08 pm - UCI Announces 2014 Road Worlds Location

The UCI has announced that the 2014 Road World Championships will be awarded to Ponferrada, Spain, in the northwest corner of the country.  Normally, world championship locations are announced at world championships in earlier years, and 2014 was due to be announced this September, in Copenhagen, Denmark.  However, the lack of any other viable contenders led to the UCI awarding the Worlds to Ponferrada today.  They also said the city is being considered for the 2015 Para-cycling Road Worlds.

The 2015 Road Worlds will still be announced in Copenhagen, with two contenders - Oman and Richmond, Virginia in the United States.  Quebec City recently pulled out of the competition.  After Copenhagen this year, the Road Worlds will go to Valkenberg, Netherlands in 2012, Florence, Italy in 2013 and now Ponferrada in 2014.
