SpiderTech Starts Tour de l'Ain

Riders from Team SpiderTech powered by C10 are back on the saddle in a competitive setting in Europe, after a month without racing. Team SpiderTech powered by C10 has both double Canadian Champions in the lineup, with Svein Tuft and Hugo Houle on the start line at the 2011 Tour de l'Ain - La Route du progrès, a race with five stages, including the prologue.

Six riders per team will be racing the Tour de l'Ain this year. Alongside Tuft and Houle, Ryan Anderson, Zach Bell, Martin Gilbert and Guillaume Boivin will be riding with hopes of winning Team SpiderTech's first stage race since its arival on the Pro Continental tour this season.

The race kicked off with a 3.7 kilometre prologue - a shorter time trial race. Tuft, the defending Canadian Champion in the time trial, posted the top result with 15th place.

From the Directeur Sportif, Kevin Field:

We were very hopeful for Svein's chances going into today's prologue. He is feeling very good after a month off racing and a solid block of training at altitude. The course was fantastic; short, but it featured a little bit of everything - variable road surface, technical narrow roads and some wide open fast gentle downhill.

All our guys rode well. Guillaume put our new Argon E118 prototype TT bike through a good test.

In the end for Svein, he felt great, but the racing break is probably what cost him a better ride today. He wasn't accelerating out of the corners well. He just lacks a bit of racing rhythm and the top end that only comes from racing.

On the plus side, this leaves things wide open for us tomorrow. We anticipate a traditional sprint day and we have three very fast guys here with Guillaume, Martin and Zach. Hugo and Ryan will be let loose to look for breakaway opportunities and hopefully that will take the pressure off our fast men to go for it in the finish - if (or when) the break comes back.
