The UCI announced today that 33 women's teams have been registered with a UCI sanction.  The vast majority are European, with one from Canada (GSD Gestion - Kallisto) and two from the U.S. (TIBCO - Top the Top and Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies).  All have Canadian riders as members.

Registered teams were ranked under a 'fictitious' ranking, that included UCI points from the top four riders for the team from 2012, plus team UCI points from the TTT held at the world championships.

On the basis of this ranking, the best teams will automatically be invited to participate in the major events on the calendar, in line with articles 2.1.007bis and 2.14.004 of the UCI Regulations:

• The top 20 teams of the “fictitious ranking” will automatically be invited to participate in the UCI Women Road World Cup events.  (Note:  This includes TIBCO and Optum, GSD Gestion is ranked 21st)

• The top 15 teams of the “fictitious ranking” will automatically be invited to participate in Hors Classe (HC) events, a category newly-introduced to the Elite Women’s calendar.  (Note:  This includes TIBCO and Optum)

• The top 10 teams of the “fictitious ranking” will automatically be invited to participate in Class 1 events.  (Note:  This does not include any North American squads)

• Moreover, the top five nations of the 2012 UCI ranking will automatically be invited to participate in Class 1 events in 2013. These nations are the following: the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Italy and Great Britain.
