Cycling Canada congratulates the city of Saguenay, its partners and the organizing committee for its commitment to the development of cycling with the presentation of the first edition of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay.

After six successful editions of the prestigious U23 Nations Cup, the event will be replaced by the Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay. During the last six years, the world’s best espoirs (U23) cyclists passed through the roads of Saguenay while taking part in the Nations Cup.

It is therefore a major change of direction for this important race, which will allow a greater number of Quebec and Canadian athletes to participate in the event while attracting riders and teams with the prestigious UCI 2.2 international sanctions.

The new sanction represents an exceptional opportunity for teams to come to Canada and take part in two prestigious events:  the Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay and the Tour de Beauce. In addition to being beneficial for teams, this collaboration with the Corporation of the Tour de Beauce should allow the two organizations to share certain expenses and ensure the viability of the event.

In addition to having a significant impact on the development of Canadian athletes, this major event plays a vital role in Canada Cycling in the development of coaches and officials. It also represents a great opportunity for international visibility for the tourist region of Saguenay - Lac-St-Jean.
