Radio Canada is reporting that the municipal government in Quebec City has agreed to host and financially support the Gand Prix Cycliste du Quebec through 2018. The WorldTour races in Quebec and Montreal are held in September, and are the only WorldTour races in North America. The financial contribution will be $4.35 million over four years, which is a significant drop on an annual basis from 2014 - from nearly $2 million down to just over $1 million per year.

According to statistics provided by the City, nearly 90,000 spectators watched the 2014 edition and 24% were from outside of the local region. Visitor spending was estimated in excess of $3 million. The race is broadcast around the world to 130 countries. This year, the events in Quebec and Montreal are expected to bring in even stronger fields, since it is a week before the world championships in Richmond, Virginia.

Radio Canada is reporting that support for the Montreal race is also about to be confirmed.
