Vote!

If you haven't voted yet, there is still just over a week left to register you selection for the Canadian Rider of the Year. By the way, you will notice that yesterday we sent you to the wrong site - our faces are red...

`Cross Nationals

Less than 24 hours now before the Nationals, in Centennial Park, Etobicoke. We will be there, as will the cream of Canadian `crossers - stop by and cheer them on. Directions are at the website, as will be the results tomorrow evening.

Bicycle Nova Scotia 1997 AGM Report

This year's AGM was one of the most organized AGMs we have seen in years, thanks to the diligent work of our past president, David Wharton and our sports administrator Ike Whitehead.

Two of our members, Corrie and Walton Watt, have been working on a visually impaired cycling program, which is funded by the sale of BNS's touring book, Nova Scotia by Bicycle (available for sale at most NS Book stores or by mail order through BNS @ (902)425-5450 ext 316) had again a successful year with the program. They actually had to refuse some stokers due to the lack of skilled captains. They will continue the program next year, and hopefully they will be able to purchase another tandem in the spring. Donations would be gladly accepted from those better funded provinces. The MTB sector grew in both members and events for yet another season, and the road sector declined in numbers, but things are starting to look up with a new enthusiastic Road VP. Finally our new mandatory helmet law kept our Education and Advocacy sector quite busy throughout the year with media interviews and educational events.

Our elections saw a new President, Andrew Feenstra, Registrar, Tracey Gray, Secretary, Andrew McLaren, VP Road and Track, Dennis Weaver, Athlete Development & Coaching Coordinator, Dan Smith, Budget Director, Peter Slade, and VP Education & Advocacy , Teresa Inacio. We thank all the outgoing BOD for all of their great work, and wish the new executive best of luck.

After a very successful 1997 season, including a 32.6% increase in overall membership with the significant increase coming from young members (pre-junior and junior), we look forward to promoting and developing cycling in all of its forms throughout the upcoming year.
