June 10/17 8:23 am - Four Quebec Cyclists Receive Alcoa Academic Scholarships

Ms. Jacinthe-Pascale Gratton, Head of Communications and Government Relations, Alcoa Canada, unveiled the names of the 22 student-athletes who shared $ 80,000 in individual scholarships in the sixth Edition of the Alcoa Canada Scholarship Program within the Quebec Athlete of Excellence Foundation (FAEQ).  Among the athletes were four cyclists.

This year, 10 scholarships of academic excellence were awarded to reward excellent academic marks, as well as 11 scholarships to support academic and sports success were awarded with the aim of encouraging a better reconciliation of sport and education, plus one University Recruitment Scholarship, which will encourage a high-level student-athlete to pursue her education and sports career at a Quebec university.

Mountain biker Frédérique Trudel received a $4,000 scholarship for academic excellence, while Road athletes Gabrielle Pilote-Fortin and Alizée Brien each received $4,000 scholarships for academic and sports success, and Florence Dostie-Ménard received a $2,000 scholarship for academic and sports success.

"Alcoa is very pleased to have the opportunity to support the academic and athletic development of young student-athletes whose commitment to success and strong ability to take on challenges make them models of perseverance for all of us," Said Mr. Jean-François Cyr, President of Alcoa Canada.

The President of the Foundation, Claude Chagnon, thanked Alcoa Canada for its loyalty and an enhanced contribution over the past six years. "We are very proud of the confidence that companies have in the Foundation, its players and its fellows. We are very pleased to have Alcoa Canada among our prestigious sponsors and see how the latter develops a real commitment to the mission of the FAEQ and the academic, sporting and professional career of its fellows."
