Kabush Signs with Kona

In this season of team signings, one of the major signings that everyone has been waiting for is that of Geoff Kabush, who capped a strong season with a stellar 9th place in the men's Olympic mountain bike race. Geoff is the second highest ranked North American man in the world rankings (18th, after Roland Green's 9th), and has been courted by every major team in North America. Last night the speculation finally ended when he sent us the following message:

"After a very interesting last couple of months I am happy to let you know that I have re-signed with Kona for the next three years. I had interest from several other teams but Kona has always been the team that has believed in me and was ready to make a long-term commitment to me. I have been riding a Kona for the last 4 years and I am excited that I can continue to keep riding one. I have built a great relationship with the team management, feel very relaxed with the team atmosphere, and have great confidence in the bikes and equipment. These factors have contributed to my success and contributed to my decision to stay with the team. With Kona increasing their presence and support for me next year, I am already looking forward to building on the success of this year at the NORBA's and World Cup's next season."

Subject: Assembly of the international cycle-racing track of Bromont - URGENT Need of volunteers

Hello to all,

As you probably know, the new international cycle-racing track of Bromont (the old cycle-racing track of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics) is at present at the stage of the assembly on the new site of the Canadian Center of Development Cyclist of Bromont.

Work progressed quickly and we had about half of the track assembled, when the Commission of the Construction of Quebec (CCQ) served us with ordinance of interruption of the building site. The CCQ considers that the work of assembly of the cycle-racing track is building work fixed within the Law R-20, which should be carried out by a contractor and specialized employees. Our lawyers think contrary.

We consider three alternatives at present:

1 To accept the claims of the CCQ and to carry out the assembly by specialized employees. This means significant extra costs which would largely mortgage the budget of operation of the Center.

2 To dispute the ordinance of the CCQ in front of the courts. In addition to the expenses of lawyers and experts, this option implies times of several weeks, whereas it becomes urgent to supplement the assembly of the track and to protect it before the winter.

3 To supplement work of assembly and protection of the track with the volunteers coming from the world of cycling.

We thus launch a call to all in order to start again the building site as soon as possible, and wish to know your availability to come to contribute to the assembly of our new cycle-racing track.

All those interested are invited to communicate the following information as soon as possible to us:

1 Your name, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail.

2 Your availability during the next three weeks, during the week and on the weekend.

3 Your completion of the course of security of building sites, given by the Commission of Health and Security to Work (CSST). NB: This is not an essential condition. Do not hesitate to transmit your availabilities to us even if you did not follow this course of the CSST.

4 Have you qualifications or particular experiences relevant, in particular in welding or in the operation of cumbersome machinery (charger or lifting truck).

PLEASE to transmit this information to us to the following address: ccdcb1@qc.aira.com

By fax: 450-534-1563, or by telephone: 450-534-0573 or 450-534-2254 (leave a message).

We thank you in advance for your fast answer and your contribution to the installation for YOUR CYCLE-RACING TRACK.
