For the second day in a row, the Canadian record book has been rewritten at the Junior Track World Championships in Frankfurt, Germany, with the women's Team Pursuit squad setting a new national record in their first round race and the women's Flying 200 metre time trial record falling.  These are the third and fourth national records broken thus far at the Championships.  The Team Pursuit time of 4:31.926 set by the team of Ngaire Barraclough, Sarah van Dam, Lily Plante and Adele Desgagnes knocked over six-tenths of a second off the existing record, set in 2017.  The team finished fifth overall at the world championships.

"We're so proud and happy to have taken the Canadian Record!!," said Lily Plante.  "We worked so hard as a team leading up to this and each executed our roles incredibly.  It was our best ride by far and we are so happy and shocked to have set the record!"

In other competitions, women's sprinter Madison Dempster qualified eighth in a Canadian record time of 11.501, breaking the record set by Monique Sullivan back in 2007.  Dempster made it to the eighth-final round, while James Hedgcock made it all the way to the small final of the Men's Keirin, ranking tenth overall.  Mathias Guillemette was 11th in the Men's Scratch Race.

Canadian Sprint Coach Joe Veloce commented, "It was another great day for the sprinters here in Germany with two Top-10 placings in very deep fields.  Madison rose to the occasion and set a new Canadian record - and a massive personal best - in the 200 metre.  Her time was good enough to put her right in the mix for the rounds, which was very impressive for a first year Junior. Unfortunately, she just got beat out in the 1/8th finalin a race that could have gone either way."

"Andrew [Scott] and James faced tough competition in the Keirin.  Some crafty riding from James got him through to the Semi-finals, where he rode a textbook ride.  Ultimately, the race came down to a 4-way photo finish, with James just missing the qualification for the 1-6 Final."
