Lionel Sanders, a professional triathlete, has set a new national record for the one hour, covering over 250 laps and 51.30 kilometres in 60 minutes at Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario.

The previous record of 47.59 kilometres was set by Ed Veal on the same track on April 10, 2015. The current Unified Hour Record of 55.089 kilometres was set at altitude by Belgium's Victor Campenaerts on April 16, 2019.

Sanders rode a remarkably consistent hour, ticking off 17.5 second laps for almost the entire hour, picking up his pace in the final five minutes. Sanders broke the Canadian record with three minutes still left in the hour.

Over 10,000 people followed the live streamed event on Youtube, including Campenaerts. You can watch the ride Here or below.
