Canada's Marie-Claude Molnar has added the road race world title to the time trial one she won on Thursday in Women's C4 at Cascais, Portugal.

Molnar crossed the finish line of the 67 kilometre race with a comfortable lead of 5 minutes 24 seconds over Russian Elena Galkina. France's Katell Alençon was 7:33 behind for the bronze medal. The C5 and C4 women raced together.

"It's probably the hardest race I've ever done! When [Britain's] Sarah Storey (C5) is there it always adds another level to the race," said Molnar to Sportcom, adding that she didn't expect to win. "I was hoping it was a good day, I was patient early in the race and made the right decisions. Finishing more than 5 minutes early is fun!"

In the opening laps, the field was going slowly, with Elena Galkina on a solo breakaway. Storey went on the attack in the fourth of eight laps and a group of C5 class athletes followed. Molnar remained in a group with Katell Alençon.

The Quebec rider then went on the attack on a climb, leaving the Frenchwoman behind. Molnar's group then caught up with Galkina who was unable to hang on. "It was going really hard and it gave me almost 35 km / hour average speed. It's not something I do often."
