New U.S. Team Is Canuck Heavy

We told you some months ago about a new U.S. team that top Canadian riders Gord Fraser, Matt Anand and Mark Walters would be riding for this season. Well, now the team has released the name of their title sponsor - the Mercury-Lincoln brand of Ford. Unfortunately, it looks like we will only see the team in Canada for the G.P. de Beauce (because of the international sanction). You can also expect to see the Canadian riders up for the Nationals, but that‚s about it.

Follow Up on `99 World Cup Decision

We suggested that it was very disappointing for the west coast to be once again left out of the World Cup selections, when Whistler was turned down in favour of Bromont and Mont Ste Anne. We have received word from someone in the know that the UCI is not required to give reasons for their decisions between competing host bids (and they didn‚t in this case). However, the understanding is that given the schedule - eastern North America and then to Europe for the Finals - the travel back to the west coast was a major consideration. This may be true, but it is still a major embarassment that one of the most highly regarded ski resorts in the world has never had a World Cup...

Group Rides - Southern Ontario
(courtesy Piers Davidge and Kim Langton)

We are having Sunday training rides that leave from Walkers Line and Hwy #5 (Tim Hortons). The ride is about 2 .5 hours (3 to 3.5 on nice days). The ride is controlled so that everyone can benefit from it, no matter how strong they are. Everyone and anyone is welcome. Come and ride at your own risk and helmets are recomended. All riders must obey rules of road. THIS IS NOT A RACE!!!!

Note: if you have a regular group ride happening, let us know!

Classifieds and Links

Lots of Classifieds going up in the next 24 hours - be sure to check them out. We seem to be tapering off on the links - surely there are lots of Canadian sites out there that we don‚t have up! Just go to our Links page and fill in the form - it is free for non-commercial sites.

Teams

We are putting together our list of Canadian teams - if you want to have your team listed then send us the info NOW.

Event Organizers

Let us publicize your event! Send us info on your event and talk to us about setting up a website for your event (not a requirement for Daily News, by the way). Check out the Cross Nationals page for a sample. Approximately 50% of the entries came through this website, according to the organizer! Write Us for more info on this service. Note: Please e-mail us info about your event rather than posting it on the Forums, that is not the appropriate venue.
