Stage 6 - Commercy to Strasbourg 212 km


A breakaway group of 5 riders, [Axel Merckx (Domo), Rik Verbrugghe (Lotto), Michele Bartoli (Mapei), Frederic Bessy (CA) and Laurent Brochard (Jean Delatour)] that was instigated by Axel Merckx at the 45 km point of today's 212 km sixth stage, stayed away for all but the final 5km. The last breakaway straggler Verbrugghe was caught with less than 3 km to go.

It came down to a pack sprint that was taken by Jan Kirsipuu (AG2R), after a long lead out that was contestd by Damien Nazon (Bonjour) and Jan Svorada (Lampre).
