Redlands Update

We just received a telephone report from Chris Redden, team manager for Team Schwinn Canada, who is down in California for the Redlands Classic race and has kindly agreed to give us on-the-spot reports from the race (we will also be getting more in-depth reports from Ed Schum).

Chirsi reports that this evening was the Street Sprint, a two-up drag race (complete with dragster racing lights!). Only one Canadian rider made the Finals (8 women, 16 men) - Alison Sydor. However, for some reason Alison did not show up for her heat, so she was out of the running in the first round of the finals. Below are the top-3 (other results unavailable at this time):

Men

1. J. Bairos
2. D. Boushard-Hall
3. Adam Paine

Women

1. N. Reinhart
2. B. Yone
3. N. Friedmann

Look for more reports later.

New Daily News

When you enter the Daily News section tomorrow morning (or this morning, if it is March 4th when you are reading this), you will notice a new look. We have made some major changes to Daily News, starting with a fully searchable index of Daily News postings for the past year!

The latest 10 postings will remain in the Daily News section from now on; previous postings will go into the database (at the bottom of the frame). So, if you want to find out results for, say, Chrissy Redden for the last year, just type her name into the search and Go! Alternately, you can chose a particular date, a combination of date with rider, rider with event, etc., and the database will return a complete list from the last year of postings. Trivia buffs rejoice!

A couple of points:

  • the search engine does not support complicated searches (ie, boolean)
  • some early postings were made a format that is not completely compatible with the current format (if you come across one that is difficult to read because of formating, please let us know so that we can fix it). Also, some links to other sites may no longer work if the site has ceased to exist or moved.

So, play around with the database and let us know what you think - it will be updated on an ongoing basis from now on. We expect to have our 1998 Buyer‚s Guide database up in a few days, so stay tuned.

A Letter From Down Under

We received this e-mail from Australia. Interested Juniors and their supporters are encouraged to reply.

G'Day,

checked out your site today & I like it. It's a bit more user interactive than most, with the forums and all. I especially like the bit about the beer reviews!!! A bit different for a cycling site but what the heck, I like beer too.

What's happening with the juniors in Canada? Ours are going pretty well here in Australia, especially in N.S.W. (east coast). We have an excellent coaching & development system here in NSW & the junior races are pretty well supported on both road & track, e.g. Penrith 2 day tour has had close to 300 entries the last couple of years.

We publish some of the junior results on our junior cycling page if you are interested in having a look at them. There is plenty of talent & depth in our junior ranks, in particular Ben Kersten & Kerrie Meares, both sprinters & track time triallists. We would be interested in anything to do with racing in Canada, especially juniors, to place on or link to from our site.

Bye for now,

Col & Julie Johnson
