The Canadian Cycling Association has announced the programs for Junior men and women and Espoir men that will be used to prepare for the Road World Championships. The final team selection will be partially based on these programs.

Junior Men European Program

The Canadian Cycling Association is proud to name 5 junior men road riders that will be attending races in Europe as preparation leading up to the 2001 World Road Championships in Lisbon, Portugal.

The invited riders are:

Marc Bomhof, AB
Cameron Evans, BC
Jean-Sébastien Maheu, QC
Ryan Roth, ON
Warren Tilbrook, BC
Jean-Philippe Marion, QC (alternate)

In order to insure that the chosen juniors have the international competitiveness required to perform at Worlds, the CCA has selected two stage races; one in Croatia and the next in Italy. The events will be held respectively from September 14th to the 16th of September for the Tour of Istru in Croatia and from the 21st to the 23rd of September for the Giro delle Basilicata in Italy. Following these two stage races a final selection will be made, to make the Lisbon trip, based upon competitiveness at the international level.

Espoir Men European Program

The Canadian Cycling Association is happy to announce that it will be inviting 6 riders to compete in France, with a primary goal being to gain experience in international racing. The 6 invited athletes are:

François Parisien, QC
Peter Sanowar, ON

The selected events are the Tour de Moselle that runs from September 20th to the 23rd, the Tour de Seine et Marne from September 28th to the 30th, and Paris-Tours Espoir on October 7th . The first two events are Elite National level and the third one is an UCI Espoirs race. As previously mentioned, these athletes have been invited for international experience purposes. However, aside from Charles Dionne who is automatic, upon showing international competitiveness, there may be a spot that opens up for a second rider on the line at the Road World championships in Lisbon, Portugal in October.

Junior Women Road World's Program

The Canadian Cycling Association is proud to announce 7 junior women that will be invited to participate in the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont from August 31st to September 3rd. The invited riders are:

From the Green Mountain stage race results the team will be reduced to participate in the Univest Grand Prix on September 16th and the Bermuda stage race from the 19th to the 23rd of September.

As it has been the case in the past few years a maximum of 4 junior women will be able to take the start at the Road Worlds in Portugal in October. However, following the aforementioned races, an assessment of the remaining junior women will be made in order to bring the most internationally competitive riders to Road Worlds.
