Tour de Milton - Ontario

Dear Cycling Community,

On Sunday, September 30, 2001, the first annual Tour de Milton will take place. This will be a Memorial Bike Ride in memory of Jack Wierzbicki.

Jack was tragically killed by a hit and run driver while riding his bike on Tremaine Road in Milton on August 14, 2001. Jack was training to compete in the Ontario Championships in Pelham the following Sunday. Jack was hit at noon on a flat, open stretch of country road. There were no other vehicles on the road and no witnesses to the accident. Any cyclist could have been easily seen on the road where Jack was hit and left on the road. Jack had been a competitive cyclist since his days on the Polish Junior National Team. He was an experienced and cautious rider. On the day of his death, he had driven his car from his Etobicoke home to ride on the quiet country roads around MIlton. Jack is survived by his wife Anna, daughter Alicia 14, and sons Tommy 12 and Daniel 4.

Riders will meet at the Milton GO station on Main Street East, just east of highway 25, at 10:00 am. The route is 70 km, with a short cut to make a 40 km ride if preferred. This is a ride, not a race. The $25.00 registration fee for each rider will be donated to Jack's family.

Donations to the family can also be made at any branch of the Royal Bank. The account is called "Friends of the Wierzbicki Family", account # 03342 1004399.

Please contact Karen at Spokes and Slopes in Milton, email klhaist@stn.net or Tom at BikeSports 905-953-1609, e-mail pennyz@sympatico.ca if you have any questions.

THANK YOU for your support in raising awareness of cycling safety and in supporting Jack's family.

Sincerely, Tom Zielinski, BikeSports

PS:If you would like a poster to advertise the ride, please email us at pennyz@sympatico.ca with your complete address and we'll send it ASAP
