2002 Mountain Bike World Cup

We have the unofficial 2002 schedule for the World Cup. Please note that it will not become official until the UCI ratifies it in October.

May 18-19Madrid, SpainCross-country
May 25-26Houffalize, BelgiumCross-country
June 1-2Leysin, SwitzerlandCross-country, Downhill, Dual
June 8-9Maribor, SloveniaDownhill
June 29-30Mont Ste Anne, CanadaCross-country, Downhill, Dual
July 6-7Grouse Mtn, CanadaCross-country, Downhill, Dual
July 13-14Arai, JapanDownhill
August 25 - September 1Kaprun, AustriaWorld Championships
September 7-8Les Gets, FranceWorld Cup Final (Triple)

This is likely the last time that Canada will get two World Cups in the shortened schedule. The UCI is pushing hard to have a U.S. stop on the schedule and that will probably happen by 2003. You will also notice that the world championships have moved up to August. According to our information, the intention of the UCI is to keep the UCI at this time during the season (except in Olympic years). Lugano, Switzerland has the 2003 Worlds, and the 2004 Worlds are still to be awarded.

Worlds Follow Up

Our editor has arrived back in Canada after a full day of fighting with the 'new' air travel. We will be attending the Canadian trade show tomorrow, and then, starting tomorrow, we will be putting up lots more worlds photos and some more Worlds stories.
