Geneviève Jeanson Takes The Lead At The Redlands Classic

Geneviève Jeanson of Team RONA won the prologue and took the lead of the Redlands Classic, held this week in Redlands, in the San Bernardino area in California. Beside Jeanson, two other RONA placed in the top ten – Katrina Grove in 7th place and Katheryn Curi in 10th place.

Jeanson completed the 5.15-km ascending time trial in 9 minutes 58 seconds, at an average speed of 31.0 km/h. She led American Kristin Armstrong (T-Mobile) by 22 seconds and Canadian Sue Palmer Komar by 25 seconds.

“The pace was a little slower this year than last year, because the wind got stronger as we climbed Mount Rubidoux”, said Jeanson, who will be wearing the yellow jersey at the start of tomorrow's stage. “But I feel good, this year's field is strong, and I'm looking forward to a great week of racing.”

Tomorrow's stage will be an 85-kilometre road race. The Redlands Classic is made up of six stages, including today's prologue, and will be completed Sunday.


Geneviève Jeanson Prend La Tête De La Classique Redlands

Geneviève Jeanson, de l’équipe cycliste RONA, a remporté le prologue de la Classique Redlands, disputée à Redlands dans la région de San Bernardino en Californie. Outre Jeanson, deux autres coureuses de RONA ont fini parmi les dix premières, Katrina Grove et Katheryn Curi ayant terminé respectivement septième et dixième.

Jeanson a complété le contre-la-montre de 5,15 kilomètres en ascension en 9 minutes 58 secondes, à la vitesse moyenne de 31,0 km/h. Elle a été suivie par l’Américaine Kristin Armstrong (T Mobile), à 22 secondes, et la Canadienne Sue Palmer Komar (Genesis Scuba), à 25 secondes.

« Les temps de cette année ont été un peu plus lents que ceux de l’an dernier, a commenté Jeanson, qui revêtira le maillot jaune au départ demain. À mesure qu’on montait le Mont Rubidoux, le vent gagnait en intensité et nous ralentissait. Mais je me sens bien, le peloton de cette année est relevé, et on devrait avoir droit à une belle semaine de course. »

L’étape de demain est une course en ligne de 85 kilomètres. La Classique Redlands comporte six étapes, y compris le prologue d’aujourd’hui, et se termine dimanche.
