Canadians in Arizona

Nathan Chown of GearsRacing.com sent in the following report:

After a couple of weeks training in Tucson Mark Pozniak and myself decided to get some racing in our legs and do a local Arizona race. It was a hard course; basically 10 kilometers long with about 500 feet of climbing a lap for 12 laps. It was a 9.30 start and it was already 85 degrees F, and hit a high of 96 during the race, so the heat was a bit tough.

The race started very fast with multiple break attempts. Finally a group of 5 got away. The pack eventually was cut down to 8-10 guys. Mark had some problems on lap 8 and dropped out. He had a good ride until the incident, but that's racing.

Luckily for me, my roommate - Jay Blakenship - got a rock caught between his brakes and rim and had to drop out after he pretty much flipped over his bars and could not chase back on. So he fed me for the day. Eventually due to the heat and climbing there were a lot of DNF's and in the end I ended up 7th.
