Blizzard Bike Club Fort St. John, BC

Oct 10th

The Blizzard's had a busy weekend at the Edmonton cyclo-cross bike races. Robin Baillie's 5th place finish in the Elite/Open class on Saturday was the club's top showing. Pat Ferris was 10th in Sunday's Sport class for his top finish.

There were 80 riders from BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan, out for Saturday's Velocity 'Cross event at Argyll Velodrome Park. The circuit was a fast 2.5 km loop covering mostly grass with bridges, gravel paths, one 'run-up at a barrier and a very steep hill to climb. Pat Ferris was racing early, with the Sport class. He came in 12th in a tough, large field.

Robin Baillie had to overcome an excellent field of Open/Elite including Alex Stieda, ex-Tour De France rider. He was an excellent 5th place despite arriving in Edmonton very late.

Sunday's Strathcona Cross also had a large, tough field of riders on a very different type of course at Strathcona Science Park. This was very technical with two run-ups, a flight of stairs and some tight turning sections.

Robin Baillie had a great start and was doing well until he suffered a flat tire and was forced to run with his bike to the pits and get a wheel change. He made it back up to 12th spot, despite the flat and a fast group of riders to be only 5 minutes back of the winner Tim Heemskerk of Holland. Ex-Blizzard Dan Wood was 14th.

Pat Ferris was 10th in the Sport class. He managed to stay close to the leaders and finished 3 minutes behind the winner.

Coming up:
-Thursday night Cyclo cross at 6:30 pm at North Peace School.
-Sunday is Beatton River Cyclo-Cross at 2 pm.
Oct 22 ˆ Annual Club Awards Banquet. Tickets at Ferris Fast Cycles
